Controversy is brewing over reports that Walmart is selling a black Barbie doll for only half of what the white doll is being sold for, ABC News reports.
Photos on Guanabee.com (first shown on a site called Funny Junk) show the Ballerina Theresa Barbie doll, who is black, and the Ballerina Barbie doll, who is white, hanging side by side in a store. Price of the black Barbie: $3.00. Price of the white Barbie: $5.93.
The photo was reportedly taken at a Walmart in Louisiana, according to Guanabee.com.
Walmart told ABC News that the chain needed to clear space for new seasonal products and thus marked down the prices of many items.
"To prepare for (s)pring inventory, a number of items are marked for clearance, " spokeswoman Melissa O'Brien said in an e-mail to ABC News."... Both are great dolls. The red price sticker indicates that this particular doll was on clearance when the photo was taken, and though both dolls were priced the same to start, one was marked down due to its lower sales to hopefully increase purchase from customers."
"Pricing like items differently is a part of inventory management in retailing," O'Brien said.
FALL RIVER, Mass. - A former Massachusetts dentist is accused of putting paper clips in patients’ mouths during root canals, then billing Medicaid for the stainless steel posts he should have used.
The state attorney general announced Tuesday that a grand jury indicted former Fall River dentist Michael Clair last week. The charges include assault and battery, larceny, submitting false claims to Medicaid, and illegally prescribing drugs.
Prosecutors say Clair was suspended by Medicaid in 2002. He allegedly hired other dentists for his clinic and filed claims under their numbers between August 2003 and June 2005. He’s also accused of illegally prescribing drugs to staffers who returned medications to him.
Clair is to be arraigned April 8. He now lives in Maryland. A telephone listing could not be found for him, and it’s unclear if he has an attorney.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - When a Tennessee jailer ripped the gold grill from a new inmate's teeth two days before Thanksgiving last year, it left the 31-year-old man in excruciating pain and left taxpayers on the hook for nearly $100,000 in damages.
Anthony McCoy spat out blood and teeth in a trash can and was in agony for more than a week after Davidson County Sheriff's Lt. Tanya Mayhew reached into his mouth and yanked out the grill, along with the cement attached to his teeth, said his lawyer, David Raybin.
The forced extraction pulled the enamel off McCoy's front teeth and left him with a damaged mouth that still isn't fixed, Raybin said.
City lawyers were planning Tuesday night to ask the Nashville Metro Council to approve a $95,000 settlement to avoid a lawsuit over the incident.
It happened Nov. 24, a day after McCoy was admitted to the Metro Jail on charges of contempt of court for failure to pay child support, two counts of violation of an order of protection and harassment.
When a guard asked McCoy to remove his grill while he was being processed in the jail, he said it was permanently cemented to his teeth years earlier.
$10,000 damage to teeth
In a legal analysis, the Metro Council's office acknowledges that Mayhew then reached into McCoy's mouth and ripped off the grill, causing an estimated $10,000 worth of damage to McCoy's teeth.
McCoy made repeated but futile requests for medical treatment," Raybin said.
"There was no urgency at all," Raybin said of the Metro Jail officials and Correct Care Solutions, the company that Nashville contracts with to provide inmate medical care. "This guy was in agony for over a week and a half." The inmate's claim is based on pain and suffering, as well as the dental damage.
CCS has agreed to pay $20,000 because of the "unwarranted delay" in receiving treatment, the Metro Council's legal analysis says. It also says Mayhew broke sheriff's office policy by reaching into the inmate's mouth. The paperwork also acknowledges that McCoy waited 10 days before ever receiving medical treatment beyond Tylenol, in spite of repeated pleas for help.
It's not clear why McCoy had to wait so long to get treatment or how many times he asked for help. It's also not clear whether jail officials ever requested that CCS see him sooner.
In an e-mail to The Associated Press, CCS declined to comment.
A Sheriff's Department spokeswoman said that since the incident, a new policy specifically prohibits jailers from removing inmates' grills. The Sheriff's Department referred other questions about the case to the county Health Department, which oversees the contract with CCS.
A Health Department spokesman said that federal privacy laws barred officials from saying whether McCoy sought medical treatment while in the jail.
'Reprehensible act'
City officials have previously been happy with the quality of care CCS has provided to the inmates, but are going to closely monitor the agency, said Health Department spokesman Brian Todd. "We don't ever want to see something like this happen again."
"This appears to be an unusual and pretty reprehensible act," Councilman Ronnie Steine, chairman of the budget and finance committee, told The Tennessean newspaper of Nashville. "My hope is that the employee has had the appropriate disciplinary action for something that seems to be an egregious act."
The lieutenant who pulled out the grill was demoted and received five days suspension.
McCoy was later convicted on the harassment charges and released from jail on Feb. 2.

A pregnant Texas woman is being called a hero by police.
Angela Gutierrez, 26, who is 9 months pregnant, witnessed a group of teens beating up a police officer outside of her mother's home in Brownsville, Texas. Gutierrez then jumped out of her car and ran to get the teens off the officer. The San Antonio Express-News reports that Sgt. Mike Luna said the teens were members of the Rio Grande Valley gang Cinco.
Gutierrez said her gut reaction told her to rescue the officer.
"Something just felt like I had to help him and I just told the guy, 'Leave him alone, he's just doing his job.' That's it. That feeling that you have to help a person out because no one wants to be in that situation, I mean, cops are just doing what they're doing," she said.
Luna praised Gutierrez's actions. "I think she was very brave to do what she did. ... I just think it was kind of an instinct that took over. Maybe she didn't even think about it. ... No one else was doing anything."
The officer is currently recovering at home. The Express-News reports that Jesus Salinas, 17, Jose Salinas, 19, and Adrian Lopez, 17, have been charged with aggravated assault of a public servant. Manual Macias, 17, was charged with aggravated assault of a public servant and evading arrest.

Chicago - A west suburban Northlake mother and son were arrested late last month for allegedly battering a police officer.
On Nov. 20 police had received a call of a suspicious person throwing gang signs to people. Police found an 18-year-old man in a car and stopped him. The 18-year-old refused to cooperate, refused to submit to arrest and spit on an officer said police Cmdr. Jay Millitello.
While that happened, the man's mother came over and tried to intervene, striking an officer, Milletello said. The mother and son were arrested in the 200 block of East Palmer Avenue at 10:08 p.m.
Thomas A. Lansford, 18, of 236 E. Palmer, Northlake was charged with driving with a suspended license, no valid insurance, aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and two counts of aggravated battery to a police officer.
Dorrie Rosinski, 40, of the same address was charged with resisting a police officer and aggravated battery to a police officer.
The next court date for both is Dec. 1.
A west suburban Northlake man has been charged with repeatedly attempting to hit an officer with a car Sunday afternoon at a west suburban gas station after the officer "didn't move out of his way fast enough."
Juan Gutierrez-Cabrera, 28, of the 200 block of Maplewood, was arrested Sunday for attempting to hit Cook County Sheriff's Gang Investigator Terrance Ross with a car at 141 W. North. Ave. in Northlake, according to a sheriff's office release.
A Sam's Club is located at that address.
According to the release, Ross was fueling his vehicle at a "near-empty station" that had 24 gas pumps on Sunday about 3:45 p.m., the release said. The 14-year veteran was speaking with another gang investigator at a pump directly across from him, when the officer felt something behind him, the release said.
Gutierrez-Cabrera had allegedly sped up behind Ross, coming inches within striking his leg with his vehicle, a 2001 Buick Century, the release said.
Gutierrez-Cabrera proceeded to back up his car and again speed at Ross, stopping just short of striking him. The officer yelled at him to stop, identified himself as an officer and flashed his badge, body armor and police radio, the release said.
At that point, Gutierrez-Cabrera allegedly lunged his car forward, forcing Ross to quickly move to the side to avoid being hit, the release said. Gutierrez-Cabrera then turned his wheels toward the officer and accelerated toward him, which caused Ross to draw his weapon and order Gutierrez-Cabrera out of the car, according to the release.
Gutierrez-Cabrera was charged with misdemeanor assault of a peace officer as well as had his car towed, after police arranged transportation for Gutierrez-Cabrera' wife and children who were in the car at the time of the incident, the release said.
He was also cited for driving without a license and having no insurance, the release said.
Gutierrez-Cabrera said the officer "didn't move out of his way fast enough" which upset him, the release said.
He will appear in Maywood court on April 20.
Chicago - A teen girl has been charged with allegedly attacking police responding to a disturbance outside a West Side high school, police said.
Police responded about 2 p.m. Monday to a “large” disturbance after the dismissal of a school in the 5200 block of West Congress Parkway, police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines said. Clark Academy Prep Magnet High School is located at 5101 W. Harrison St., according to a Web directory.
A 17-year-old girl punched an officer in the face after she was ordered to disperse, Gaines said. As a result, officers used a Taser to restrain the teen, he said. The teen and two officers were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, Gaines said.
Keaira Matthews is a current student at Clark Academy Prep Magnet High School and is in 11th grade, according to Chicago Public Schools spokeswoman Monique Bond. Matthews has had no disciplinary history, Bond said.
The girl was charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a police officer and two counts of resisting arrest, Gaines said.
Grand Central Area detectives are investigating.
Hilton Head Island, S.C. - A 38-year-old father of two was jogging and listening to his iPod when he was hit from behind and killed by a small plane making an emergency landing on the beach, officials said Tuesday.
Robert Gary Jones of Woodstock, Ga., died instantly Monday evening when he was hit by the single-engine plane, which had lost its propeller, said Beaufort County Coroner Ed Allen. The pilot's vision was blocked by oil on the windshield.
Jones apparently did not see or hear the plane, which was "basically gliding," the coroner said.
FAA records show the Experimental Lancair IV-P plane was registered to Edward I. Smith of Chesapeake, Va.
Smith was on the beach with his plane Tuesday and confirmed he was the pilot, but declined to talk about the crash on the advice of his attorney. Authorities said there was also a passenger on board but did not identify him or her.
The plane started leaking oil at about 13,000 feet and tried originally to make it to Hilton Head Airport, said fire and rescue spokeswoman Joheida Fister.
The oil on the windshield blocked Smith's vision and he told authorities the propeller came off. When he tried to land on the beach near the Hilton Head Marriott Resort and Spa, the plane hit Jones and came to rest a little farther down the beach, Fister said.
The plane was still on the beach Tuesday afternoon. Waves lapped against it and the tail was attached to an anchor with a rope so the tide wouldn't pull it out to sea. The waves had washed away any sign of it skidding across the sand.
Yellow crime scene tape stretched from the water to the dunes to keep people away. Tourists walked up to the tape, gawking and snapping pictures. Other than the missing propeller, the plane appeared undamaged.
The plane left Orlando, Fla., at 4:45 p.m. and was headed for Virginia, Fister said. The four-seater plane has a turbine engine, can be built from a kit and can fly up to 370 mph, according to the Lancair Web site. The IV-P model has a pressurized cabin.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were investigating, Fister said.
An FAA spokeswoman referred inquiries to the NTSB.
A British middle-aged couple who claim that sex and TV are their only luxuries are seeing at least one of those luxuries trimmed down by council chiefs.
The Scottish Sun reports that Alan and Fiona Hay claim council officials banned them from having sex between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. after a neighbor's child told a teacher about the noise.
The couple say their sex sessions only last five minutes because he has asthma. Alan Hay, 50, complained to the council on Monday.
The Sun reported that he said, "It's total nonsense. My wife and I are both disabled and I can assure you that we are not swinging from the light-shades.
"We are not screamers either -- we cannot believe it. Sex normally only lasts around five or six minutes due to my condition so it's not as it we are at it all night."
Alan Hay also has epilepsy and cares for 43-year-old Fiona, who has myotonic dystrophy.
ANI reports that the Penicuik, Midlothian, couple received a warning letter from officials on March 14 after a neighbor's child told a teacher they could hear the twice-weekly sex sessions. They have also been told that they could be taken to court.
A neighbor who refused to be named told the media that a few people had complained about the noise, saying they are loud and "some of the talk is very dirty."
A Midlothian Council spokeswoman said the county has a duty to respond to complaints regarding tenants.
Earlier this year a British women whose noisy sex sessions were officially branded anti-social behavior was warned she would face jail if she fails to stop the excessively loud lovemaking.
While in New York City a recent poll showed that neighbors' noisy sex is keeping many residents awake .
Chicago - The trial of Governor Rod Blagojevich will begin June 3, U.S. District Judge James Zagel decided Wednesday, turning down a request for a delay from Blagojevich's attorneys.
Attorneys for Blagojevich had asked to push back his corruption trial to November.
His lawyers said they needed more time to look at new charges, which were filed last month to avoid any trouble if the Supreme Court rejects the "honest services" law in the original case.
The judge said nothing Supreme Court does should affect the facts of the case, so there is no reason for delay. He also said that the June 3 start date should give the attorneys plenty of time to prepare their case.
Blagojevich was not in court Wednesday, as he is reportedly in New York.
Also discussed in court was whether Blagojevich could play secretly recording tapes in the courtroom. Blagojevich has been asking for the tapes to be played publicly.
The judge said that if Blagojevich takes the stand, he might be able to play tapes of his own choosing in his defense, as long as those tapes are relevant to the defense.
Blagojevich has pleaded not guilty to charges in allegedly attempting to sell Barack Obama's former U.S. Senate seat.
A Minnesota man has been charged with allegedly sending his wife to at least eight states to have sex with men in encounters he set up on online and forcing her to deposit the proceeds into his own bank account.
Clinton Danner, 32, of Rockford, Minn., is charged with pandering, a felony, according to a Cook County Sheriff's office release. He was arrested in downtown Chicago Sunday night as he arrived to pick up his wife from a hotel where he made her stay for the weekend.
She had originally planned to fly home Monday, although Danner told her in a phone call that he was very disappointed in the amount of money she had collected during the weekend and was personally driving up to get her, the release said.
The victim, whose husband told her she had to spend the weekend in Chicago having sex with strangers — told investigators she had tired of being threatened and being moved across state lines for sex acts and secretly reached out to the Polaris Project's national trafficking hotline for help.
Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart was notified of the woman's situation on Thursday night.
The victim indicated Danner regularly threatened he would take her young child away from her or harm the child if she did not comply with his demands that she prostitute herself, the release said. As part of the plan, Danner never allowed the woman to be left alone with the child.
The woman told investigators she had been trafficked to eight states, as her husband would regularly post ads on craiglist, promoting her for sex.
Danner would arrange the encounters, then demand the victim immediately deposit all proceeds into his bank account, the release said.
Danner was in contact with the woman all weekend, setting up appointments on her behalf but she told him she wasn't doing some of them because she was sick. That led Danner to drive to Chicago, where he planned to confront her about the money she had collected for him.
Cook County Sheriff's police began following Danner as he left Florida, where he had forced his wife to work last week, and as he drove to Chicago, the release said.
When he arrived at the woman's downtown hotel around 10 p.m. Sunday, he was arrested and the child he brought with was turned over to the victim. Both the victim and child were placed in safe housing, the release said.
The victim and the child is currently working with the Cook County Sheriff's Dept. of Women's Justice Services to ensure she and the child are able to access appropriate services.
Sheriff's investigators continue to investigate the case.
Danner is expected to appear for a bond hearing Wednesday although court information was not immediately available.

And the drama surrounding Wyclef’s Yele Haiti and alleged inappropriate activity continues. The Gawker website seems to have it out for Wyclef as they’ve been claiming for a while now that Wyclef has been embezzling funds from his own Yele Haiti foundation. He’s denied it many times. Now, the site claims Wyclef’s been taking over $100K from his org to fund the lifestyle of his alleged mistress/”independent contractor” Zakiya Khatou-Chevassus–who also used to work with ‘Clef. The site claims:
She worked for Wyclef on all Wyclef matters,” an unnamed source told the Web site. “She did whatever Wyclef needed that day, whether it was related to Yele or not. She would do things like book flights, and she wasn’t very good at it. It’s a shame that she made that much money.”
Though she reportedly acted as the singer’s personal assistant, Khatou-Chevassus’ salary was more than three times what Yele’s program director received, and the two were said to be romantically involved, Gawker reported.
“Everyone knows they were in a relationship,” said another unnamed source. “A dozen people, including me, saw and knew. It wasn’t a secret.”

Time Warner Cable officials apologized Tuesday after they mistakenly showed Playboy preview programming on two kids' channels.
Melissa Buscher, director of media relations for Time Warner in the Carolinas, said "equipment failure" caused Playboy programming to show up on Channel 552 Kids on Demand and Channel 555 Kids Preschool on Demand.
Time Warner apologizes for porn mix-up
While the menu of available children's programming was listed on the left side of the screen, previews showing nude women engaged in explicit conversations played in the upper right corner where previews of children's shows normally would appear.
Buscher initially said the explicit content aired from 5 to 7 a.m., but spokesman Keith Poston later said the problem occurred between 6:15 and 8:15 a.m.
It was unclear how many people saw the programming, which Poston said aired in parts of Cary, Garner, Morrisville, Wilson, Goldsboro, Willow Spring and Johnston County.
"We're very very sorry it happened. We know parents are concerned. I have a 9-year-old. I'm a dad. I'd be concerned too," Poston said. "It was a technical malfunction that caused the wrong previews to be shown on our kids on-demand channels."
Time Warner reported receiving "not an overwhelming amount of calls" about the mix-up, Buscher said. Once the company was alerted to the problem, it took workers about two hours to get it fixed.
As promised, producer Chasebeatz has released the highly anticipated beat collection titled "The Rail." This collection is a combination on jazz fused with break beats & hip hop vocals swirling in & out. Known mainly for his "Soul Selector" Collection, a 7 disc tribute to soul singers from the 70's, he has set his sights on new genres to come.
"The Rail" consists of a variety of samples from some of the elite to the unknown jazz greats. Although there is no track listing and most of the tracks are no longer than :45 seconds, the timing on the blend almost makes you forget where one ends and the other begins.
Other works under development are "Delic Horror"-a project we've been told is a chaotic blend of psychedelic rock & hip hop. Also, the long awaited "Borderline Genius" which he states is, "the best work I've ever done" is considered to be therapeutic. Period.

Nap much? If not, you need to get on that.
Young adults who slept for 90 minutes after lunch increased their "learning power,'' apparently readying their memories to soak up new facts, according to an article in The New York Times, which cites new research presented at the the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in San Diego.
"You need to sleep before learning, to prepare your brain, like a dry sponge, to absorb new information,'' Matthew P. Walker, an assistant professor of psychology and neuroscience at the University of Califorinia, Berkeley, said in the article.
The study observed 39 healthy young adults and divided them into two groups. All were asked to learn 100 names and faces at noon, then another set at 6 p.m., the article says. But 20 of the volunteers who slept for 90 minutes between the two periods enhanced their scores by an average of 10 percent after napping, while the scores of those who didn't nap fell by 10 percent.
Until now, studies of have shown that sleep helps strengthen memory after cramming for exams, but the new findings, which have not yet been published, indicate that sleep can "actually restore the ability to learn,'' the article says.
Sleep is just now being recognized as a powerful health rejuvenator.
"While we often consider sleep to be a 'passive' activity, sufficient sleep is increasingly being recognized as an essential aspect of health promotion and chronic disease prevention in the public health community,'' according to the the Web site for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
A lack of sleep is associated with chronic diseases and conditions, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity and depression, according to the CDC. "Notably, insufficient sleep is associated with the onset of these diseases and also poses important implications for their management and outcome,'' the site says.
More than one-quarter of the U.S. population reports occasionally not getting enough sleep, while nearly 10 percent experiences chronic insomnia, resulting in low productivity and accidents, according to the CDC. Now, health care officials can tackle sleeplessness as a physical and mental health problem.
Just think, in the future your doctor may write a prescription for a daily nap--preferably at noon.
